Jerevan firar 2795 år

On October 12, 2013, Armenia celebrated the 2,795 anniversary of its capital, Yerevan. The city was founded by King Argishti as the capital of the Urartu Kingdom in 782 B.C. and was named Erebouni. During the past soon 2,800 years the name evolved from Erebouni to Erevan and today's Yerevan. The remains of the royal palace has been excavated in the southeastern corner of current Yerevan and serves as a museum.

The celebrations started with numerous exhibitions and concerts and will go on the entire day. In 2018, the 2,800 anniversary of Yerevan will be celebrated with pomp and circumstance.
